greater support for jobseekers In kalgoorlie

Jobseekers in regional WA will soon have access to new employment support services that offer greater assistance to those wanting to upskill or secure work.

Under a newly awarded six-year contract, the Waalitj Foundation will deliver the Australian Government’s Workforce Australia program, in partnership with the Department of Education, Skills and Employment, boosting employment prospects across Kalgoorlie.

The new initiative, which starts in July, is a model that consolidates the existing Jobactive program providing enhanced services and support for people looking for work.

Employment Services General Manager Lindal Rohde said the Foundation welcomed the transition to Workforce Australia and was excited to deliver in partnership with the Department of Education, Skills and Employment.

“Through this program, Waalitj will deliver a range of enhanced services including building job ready skills, training and qualification support, mentoring, networking opportunities and post-placement support,” she said.

“As the current Community Development Program provider in the Yaaliku (Upper Goldfields) region, Waalitj has established strong connections with industry and local community alike, and we will leverage this network to provide increased opportunities for jobseekers.

“Through an individualised approach our mentors provide support for participants to not only gain meaningful employment but to lead a happy, healthy life.”

Lindal said the Foundation was excited to build on its successful employment programs in the Perth, Peel and South West regions, and remained committed to providing new opportunities to help participants find sustainable long-term employment.

“Waalitj looks forward to continuing to grow the future economic prosperity for First Nation’s people by harnessing established connections in the region and applying the Foundation’s successful employment model to our new jobseekers,” she said.
