Building capability for future success
Proud Ballardong Noongar man Gavin McGuire is the Owner and Managing Director of Koormal Group, a service provider for civil and construction projects in the commercial, mining and government sectors.
Gavin and his business partner, Mike Jones, have a combined experience of over 50 years in the construction industry and have built strong alliances and working relationships with leading service providers across Australia.
Koormal Group has been a Waalitj Hub client since 2018 when the company was founded. Gavin said the Hub made it easy to ask for help and they were able to receive assistance with all aspects of running a business.
“The support from the Waalitj Hub has made our business journey to date much easier,” said Gavin.
“We have been very fortunate to have had access to the Hub’s coaches, financial support, and facilities – it has made several factors easier to navigate during our start-up phase and the acquisition of Bodmec,” he said.
Earlier this year, Koormal successfully acquired Bodmec, a company that provides comprehensive maintenance solutions to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), equipment dealers, major earthmoving, and drill contractors across the state of Western Australia.
“Our business coach Verity has been very helpful with legal and contract support, as well as general business support such as financial due diligence throughout the acquisition period,” said Mike.
“She has also encouraged us to attend networking events such as the Pop-Up Hubs where we have been able to create new contacts,
“Thanks to Verity’s encouragement, Koormal Group has set some high goals and we are on the path of succeeding,” he said.
Their business coach Verity Sebire said she’s proud to be working with an Aboriginal business that has built such ample capacity to make an acquisition of this size possible.
“Koormal maintained a steadfast resolve to realise this inspiring capability-build and equip the business for even greater success in the future,” said Verity.
