Care Sector Training Transforms Lives

Leonora Community Development Program Participants are now equipped for new careers thanks to a training regime under Waalitj Foundation.

The six residents of the Northern Goldfields community undertook an intensive two-week Aged Care Skillset course, delivered by Insight Training at Waalitj Foundation’s Leonora office.

The participants’ training covered the essential components of aged care, including infection control, PPE, care plans, first aid and hazard management, ending in a walkthrough at the local Leonora Hospital.

Waalitj Foundation is now engaged with the Leonora Hospital in an effort to secure placements for the participants and empower them to embark on the next step of their care careers.

With an evident gap in accessibility to remote-based qualifications, this innovative community-based approach looks to engage participants with relevant training courses, maintaining the overall aim of developing job-ready skills that can be applied to local employment opportunities.

Supported by the Federal Government through the National Indigenous Australians Agency, CDP is an employment service which supports job seekers in remote Australia to build skills, address barriers and contribute to their communities through a range of meaningful activities.
