Care Sector Training Provides Opportunities

Congratulations to our Leonora Community Development Program participants who recently completed their Strength in Supports – Care Sector Training Course!

Throughout the week-long course, participants engaged in training that will equip them with the essential skills required to work in a health or community services environment. They learned effective communication techniques, safe work practices and how to provide First Aid.

This training delivers meaningful and tangible benefits to the Leonora community by increasing the capacity of residents and opening new job pathways. One of our participants is already in discussions to secure a traineeship in the Care Sector in Kalgoorlie!

Delivered in partnership with WISE Aboriginal Corporation, this training is part of our joint commitment to fostering economic and workforce development across the Yaaliku Region in Western Australia. Since early 2024, our collaboration has made significant strides towards empowering local communities through strategic initiatives aimed at sustainable growth and opportunity. We are also in the process of becoming a certified service provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), with the support of WISE AC.

This pivotal step promises to expand access to essential services and support for individuals with disabilities throughout the region, enhancing quality of life, fostering inclusivity and allowing for increased choice and control when accessing supports.

A key component of these efforts has been the delivery of our Industry Tailored Employment Program – “Strength in Supports”, this innovative initiative focuses on engagement, participation and capacity building of local jobseekers through industry training pathways aligned to Care and Support Sector.

Following the Care Sector Training, we are also partnering with WISE AC through WISE Workforce Solutions in the delivery of the “Ready to Work Construction and Maintenance Workforce Program”, which will provide participants with the skills necessary for roles in There are many employment opportunities for community in our region and course will allow for the development of the skills required and take the opportunities when they are presented.

Waalitj Foundation CEO Lisa Cunningham acknowledged the importance of organisations working together to create increased training opportunities for jobseekers.

“Our partnership with Wise has allowed us to offer and tailor training to the individual needs of our participants. In the region there are limited opportunities for training and this partnership has showcased our people to future employers in the region.”

WISE Aboriginal Corporation Deputy Chairperson Jayson Sandiford shared these thoughts on place-based collaboration and outcomes.

“Sharing common goals with our friends at Waalitj Foundation has provided both our organisations the opportunity to work closely with our communities on the development of place-based pathways to support local jobs for local people”.

Within our CDP program, participants play an active role in contributing to their communities through a variety of meaningful activities and training initiatives. Specifically designed around the unique conditions in remote communities, our CDP program empowers participants to build skills and overcome barriers through their involvement in a diverse range of activities.

Supported by the National Indigenous Australians Agency we deliver the CDP program throughout Leonora, Laverton, Menzies, Wiluna, Mt. Margaret, and Mulga Queen. Find out more.
