Mumma Jo’s Grocers launching soon

Mumma Jo’s Grocers is an Indigenous-owned business, supplying groceries to the local community, tourism and mining industries.
Proud Yamatji woman, Joanne Palmer, is the Founder and Business Owner of Mumma Jo’s Grocers, which focuses on providing low-cost quality food options, with an emphasis on specialty lines including locally sourced Aboriginal produce.
With a launch date planned for early next year, Joanne is currently putting the final stages in the fit out of the store, which is situated on Burt Street in Kalgoorlie Boulder.
Since coming to Waalitj Hub in 2021, Joanne has been supported by the business advisory service, through the in-house mentoring from our Business Coaches, who have also assisted with providing networking and industry connections.
Her Business Coach, Bianca, spoke on the progress of Mumma Jo’s and the importance of offering this service to the community.
“Jo has been the driving force behind Mumma Jo’s Grocers, overcoming every challenge faced along the way with perseverance and determination. Through leveraged collaboration with local partners, the Hub was able to set achievable business goals, providing a seamless outcome to shop launch. Jo has thrived from the support she has received from local community that will in turn, provide social impact through culturally supported employment opportunities with a model that can be replicated across the Region’.
Joanne said that she couldn’t help but praise the Waalitj Hub and the support of her Business Coach, Bianca, “It’s all come together with the help of Bianca. It’s been fantastic”.
Following the opening of the store, Joanne sees her business expanding on the range of dry food products into halal meat options and fresh fruit and vegetables. Further than this, Joanne’s goal is to train, mentor and employ local Indigenous people to not only become a part of the Mumma Jo’s team but to also achieve their own business goals.
