Yirra Dandjoo
Yirra Dandjoo is a holistic, strengths-based service for children and adolescents up to 18 years old with serious mental health and/or neurodevelopmental challenges.
We work with Child and Adolescent Forensic Services (CAFS) and Youth Detention Services to complete a comprehensive assessment to identify needs and a develop tailored support plan that incorporates family involvement and support to strengthen parenting capacity and enhance connectedness.
Delivered in partnership with Centrecare, our mentors work with young people, families and carers to help participants thrive in positive, health environments. This includes:
-
Culturally responsive support tailored to the needs of participants and their families
-
Support to access services, address barriers and navigate systems like education and healthcare
-
Mentoring support, including peer, education and employment mentoring
-
Trauma-informed, strengths-based counselling focused on mental health and emotional regulation
-
Support with appointments, and participation in community and recreational activities
The Yirra Dandjoo program provides support for young people, who are currently working with CFAS and Youth Detention Services, facing serious mental health or neurodevelopmental challenges and are involved with, or at risk of becoming involved with, the youth justice system.
