Wirra Hub hosts Minister Ken Wyatt
We were proud to host Minister Ken Wyatt for a morning of celebration and acknowledgment of Indigenous business hubs across Australia. Bringing together representatives virtually from Sydney and Adelaide as well as our team in Perth, this was an opportunity for Minister Wyatt to announce the expansion of the hub network into Darwin, Northern Territory.
This exciting news reflects the success we have had through business hubs across Australia in providing opportunities for Indigenous people to build successful and sustainable businesses.
“The Indigenous business and employment hub model has proven its success already and we are proud to be announcing a new Darwin hub during Indigenous Business Month, with satellite services in other key locations across the Northern Territory,” Said Minister Wyatt.
Our Wirra Hub General Manager Shane Devitt was able to share with the group his remarks on the growth of our Wirra Hub in Perth.
“Since opening our doors in 2020, we have grown to service over 250 Indigenous businesses, with our main aim being building capacity and capability in those businesses through the support of our 8 experienced business coaches,” said Shane.
Minister Wyatt and guests were also able to hear from Indigenous business owners who have been able to utilise the services of the business hubs from across Australia. The Wirra Hub was represented by our clients Koen Matera from Boodjara Energy and Chris Schmid from Woollahra Group.
“The amazing work at the Wirra Hub has, and continues to enable equal opportunities and employment prospects, and is a pioneering force for Indigenous businesses. Ongoing support is key to ensuring the foundations are built for success,” said Koen Matera.
The support we provide to businesses like Koen and Chris’ is all part of our goal to help increase the number of successful businesses in the Western Australian supply chain which is supported by the expertise of our coaches and our wider business network across Australia. We are excited to see this network grow to the Northern Territory to further develop our business connections.
“Having a hub in Darwin will also extend the reach of the existing hubs, creating a nation-wide network where each can tap into broader expertise and continue to evolve to provide better services for the Indigenous business sector,” Minister Wyatt said.
