Inspirational Business Owner, Alexandria Pidek

Alexandria Pidek is a proud Noongar women and inspirational business owner, who started her business Yargan a year ago. The business has seen exceptional growth in the last 12 months, and has provided labour hire solutions to clients who service Rio Tinto and BHP’s mining operations in the Pilbara region.

Having gained experience in the industry, Alexandria felt ready to start up her own business and with the support of the Wirra Hub, she was able to grow in leaps and bounds.

At the Bunbury Regional Pop Up late last year Alexandria first connected with the Wirra Hub and met Raylene who is now her business coach. To continue building on these relationships, Alexandria also attended the Kwinana Regional Pop Up which saw guests’ network with representatives from Alcoa, ADCO Constructions and Civmec.

“These Pop Up’s are invaluable for us.” she said. “They provide Aboriginal businesses like Yargan with the opportunity to connect to these leading companies and let them know who we are and what we can do.

“There are so many strong, emerging Aboriginal businesses in WA and the Wirra Hub provides us with this sort of platform to empower and connect us to opportunities within our industries.”

Supported by the National Indigenous Australian Agency (NIAA), the Wirra Hub provides clients like Alexandria access to commercial advice from a range of experienced mentors, office facilities and industry links which fuel business capacity growth and connection with the wider corporate community.

“The facilities at the Wirra Hub are amazing, state of the art, and it gives us a place to have interviews and meetings with clients which is everything to a new business,” she said.

Her success can also be tied to her focus on Indigenous engagement.

“I’ve got a really strong passion for Indigenous engagement; this means not just employing Indigenous people but actually supporting other Indigenous people in achieving their long-term career goals and identifying sustainable career objectives.”

Alexandria aspires to find placements for trainees and apprentices that lead them to sustainable career pathways.
