ISP High School Camp 2024

We recently held our annual Indigenous Scholarship Program High School Camp in Chinchilla Queensland, Baruggam Country.

Yeah 10, 11 and 12 students travelled from all around Queensland to participate and experience life as a university and vocational student.

Day one kicked off with a visit to the Shell QGC Chinchilla Upstream Operations Centre. Participants learnt all about the Control Room, Maintenance, Well Sites at the QGC Training Centre, apprentice programs, HR, University of Southern Queensland and TAFE opportunities.

The second day started with a Wells Toolbox Prestart Meeting and then tours to the Shell QGC’s wellsite, field compression plant, processing plant, water treatment plant and supply base.

Throughout the camp, students were provided exposure to both tertiary and vocational pathways with involvement from Shell’s QGC Business and supply chain to demonstrate the potential career pathways that exist for the students with Shell QGC.

A big thank you to Shell QGC for supporting the camp and allowing our students to learn about Shell QGC’s operations, the vast opportunities available to them and how they would be supported if to choose a career in the gas industry with Shell QGC Operations.

The Indigenous Scholarship Program, delivered by the Waalitj Foundation in partnership with Shell’s QGC business, aims to increase First Nations Australians with tertiary and trade qualifications. Currently, 68 young Indigenous people are going through the scholarship program, gaining the skills to become job ready.

The program is facilitated by local First Nations mentors who utilise their contextual and cultural understanding to provide individual mentoring for each participant. For more information about the Indigenous Scholarship Program, click here.
