Sara’s New Career at Our Leonora Office

Meet Sara! Sara connected with the Waalitj Foundation in 2022 through our Community Development Program (CDP) in Leonora. Sara has recently commenced work with the Foundation at our Leonora office as an Administrative Assistant and Cleaner.

Through CDP job seekers in remote Australia, like Sara, are supported to build skills, address barriers and contribute to their communities through a range of activities. Not only has Sara completed her 26-week employment outcome, but last year she attended and completed the Triangle of Change trial activity, and this year she has enrolled in the Strive course.

Prior to her new role at the Foundation, Sara was working as a carer and had very little administrative experience, but her CDP mentor, Laurel, encouraged her to apply for the role.

“Knowing that Laurel was there to support me made it easier for me to try new things” she said.

Laurel supported Sara with writing her resume and preparing for the interview, leading to Sara being successful in her application. 6 months into her role, she says she has learned so much and gained a lot of knowledge and skills in administration.

Speaking on her employment journey, Sara said “My experience with the Waalitj Foundation has been great. The team have been very encouraging with my professional development and are eager to assist me when I need it.”

Sara has been a great addition to the Leonora office, with her bubbly and funny nature, she always has a warm smile on her face. She said the best part of her new role is meeting new people and learning new skills, as well as having more financial freedom and her family being able to pop into the office and say hi while she is at work.

Looking to the future Sara hopes to learn more about computer software systems and work towards helping more people.

“If you are thinking about coming to the Waalitj Foundation for support with employment, come in for a cup of tea and a chat. It’s a friendly environment and everyone is willing to help.”

Supported by the National Indigenous Australians Agency we deliver the CDP program throughout Leonora, Laverton, Menzies, Wiluna, Mt. Margaret, and Mulga Queen. Find out more.
