Career Development Opportunity in Wiluna
When Neville found out about the Waalitj Foundation’s training course in Wiluna he was excited about the opportunity to forge a new career path.
As part of the Waalitj Foundation’s delivery of the Federal Governments Community Development Program (CDP), this nationally recognised Vocational Training course commenced within the Wiluna Community.
The Waalitj CDP team has been working with Carey Training to deliver a Certificate II in Civil Construction since June. The first week welcomed a cohort of local students including Neville, taking part in training modules – all assisting each other to navigate the theoretical component of the course.
Participants also heard from a range of local employers throughout the course, delivering motivational employment led workshops preparing participants for the next steps in their career journey.
Neville said that this course has been inspirational and transformative for him. “I have built new skills and gained important knowledge through this course, helping me to find new job opportunities.
“My goal is to make my kids proud and show them that you can turn your life around, doing better for myself and my family,” Said Neville.
Neville has already secured a great job opportunity; this has been built on the foundational skills he has learnt from this course.
Not only is this course expanding the career prospects of the participants involved but it is also creating a broader benefit for the Wiluna community. Neville said that his advice for other participants is that no matter what age you are, you can always get more out of life and learn new skills.
