Inspiring Deadly Sista Girlz Alumni

Deadly Sista Girlz Alumni, Hayley, Savannah, and Elouise joined us at the Deadly Futures Expo recently to share their knowledge and inspire the next generation of Sista Girlz.

As alumni of the Deadly Sista Girlz (DSG) program, which is proudly supported by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, they are part of a passionate group of First Nations women who are pursing successful career pathways.

At the Expo, each of them reflected on their time in the DSG program saying that it helped them build lifelong friendships, confidence and mentored them through discovering their passion

Ellouise began her journey with the DSG program at Gilmore College and is now working with a great partner of the program, Water Corporation. Within the Safety and Wellbeing Department, she is an important member of the team.

“The Deadly Sista Girlz program helped me build confidence and the mentors were great roles models for me,” said Ellouise.

After finishing school, she completed a range of certificates and a tertiary course at Curtin University. This training combined with her positive attitude secured her a position at Water Corporation.

Hayley Lewis, a DSG St Brigid’s Graduate is now a proud member of the Police Academy. It is inspiring to see Hayley’s growth from looking up to mentors and other positive role models to now being a positive role model herself.

“My mentors in the DSG program assisted and motivated me in applying for the Police Academy,” said Hayley.

Hayley’s mentors were so proud to see her accepted into the Police Academy and now returning to the Deadly Futures Expo to mentor fellow First Nations women, it is a full circle moment.

Working for proudly Aboriginal owned business, Maali Group; Savanah is confident and dedicated. Having finished school in 2020 at Gilmore College, the Deadly Sista Girlz program assisted her with completing pre-apprenticeship electrical training, leading her to securing an electrical apprenticeship with Maali Group.

“The DSG program helped be build confidence and maintain life-long friendships,” said Savannah.

The amazing stories of Hayley, Savannah and Elouise are testament to their hard work and dedication to pursuing meaningful careers making them great inspirations for all of our Deadly Sista Girlz who attended the career expo.
